okay, i don't rly know where to put this question on the site, so i'll put it under travel. i'm 17 and learning to drive. i have a car but need to put the insurance under someone else with me as another driver cos otherwise it's gonna cost about 900 a year and i'm poor. the car's a delightful little g-reg metro, 1.3 and i was wondering if one person can be the main driver of 2 cars? if they can then i can put one of my parents as driver and me stuck on the end but still able to drive it. also, about how much would that cost (with me as 2nd driver). hope this makes sense. thanks

Yes, one person can be the main driver of two cars. A lot of young people are having to do this to insure their cars and it is a bit of a vicious circle. Without building up your no claims bonus your insurance premiums are going to be high for a long time to come, and while the premiums are so high you can't build up your no claims bonus. I do sympathise. When I got my first car I insured it "third party, fire and theft" as opposed to fully comprehensive. This brought down the cost significantly. Have you looked at that option? It means if you crash the car and it's your fault then you have to pay for the damage to your own car. The insurance company will pay for the damage to any other car involved. I don't know how much the insurance will cost with someone else as main driver, this depends alot on their own driving history and bonus, convictions, etc. Good luck.

thankyou! now i can load all of the insurance stuff onto my mum. i'll look into the 3rd party one - fully comp was stupidly expensive anyway. thanks for ur help.
As another possibility you could try Third party only (who's going to steal a car on fire anyway :>) and this will bring the price down some more for you but you will be left with no wheels if some scrote pinches your little wagon...whatever you do though don't go without. You could also try Diamond who specialize in female only insurance (I am assuming m-shell is a female here?)
Try these as well, they used to specialise in insurance for students when I was at college. http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/
