How long does it take for a cargo ship to travel from the U.K. to the U.S.?

depends if its straight across the pond or if they have to unload somewhere first, you would have to know their schedule beforehand. I know someone who went to Canada this way took almost 6 weeks but cheap.
I wonder what its like to travel on a cargo boat ? very informal I suppose.
