my daughters are off to california this summer. They will be staying at hostels and might like to do odd jobs. What kind of visa will they need and what is the cost? Thanks
Assuming they have no criminal record and a return ticket they can stay 90 days under the Visa Waiver Scheme at no cost. If they want to stay longer than 90 days they will need a B2 tourist visa - cost around 60.
They will not be able to work legally in either event. For illegal work they will be competing with desperate Mexican illegal immigrants - forget it.
depending on age of ur children,,, if they want to do some work out in the US,, they should look at doing a Camp America programme or something simular to that,
they will get a work visa, and after they have finished the camp usually about 8-12weeks from what i can remember, they r free to do what they like,,but they r not guaranteed to placed in a camp near california....
Here's no Hostels here in the United States to speak of. Besides, It's best to be legal while thier here and enjoy themselves. If they get caught doing "odd jobs" they may end up in one of our fine County Jails and be Deported and never be able to enter again and have thier Passports overstamped. Enjoy, be safe and legal. Welcome.
