Nice to somewhere in Italy by Train
5 Answers
I will be staying in Nice in the summer and am toying with the idea of taking a trip to Italy for a few days. Is this possible by train as it looks like it but I cannot find anywhere online that seems to sell train tickets from France to Italy unless you are travelling from Paris? I do not mind where I stay in Italy somewhere preferably on a train route would be good or if anyone can recommend somewhere that would be great Thanks

Deutsche Bahn also have a UK booking office which can arrange tickets for rail travel across much of Europe. (Unlike National Rail's official partner company, Rail Europe, they don't charge a booking fee):

You book tickets from Nice, to many European destinations online by using SNCF's UK website. It's not the best of websites because, if your destination isn't listed, you have to enter 'Any Other Station' to get to a screen which tells you your journey can't be planned and then enter where you want to go to! Even so, it offers the best fares available, priced in Sterling:

PS: Travelling from NIce, a suitable destination might be Genoa. Although it's often thought of as an industrial city, the Old City is really beautiful and there's plenty to do. It wold make a superb base for exploring the Italian Riviera. For example, the delightful town of Rapallo is just along the coast and served by frequent, cheap trains.
