Has anyone the latest info on what can be taken on board in hand baggage? I have always brought back a couple of bottles of liquor in the past. Can this be done now or, is it barred?

You can still bring duty free alcohol back! Best to find the website of whoever you are flying with, they will have all the details of what is and isn't allowed.
you must buy your booty air-side, otherwise it must be checked into your hold baggage.
you can't take stuff through security, so if you buy it locally put it in checked-in luggage; otherwise you can buy it once you've gone through security or perhaps at the arrival airport. Remember no duty-frees any more within the EU.
See today's Metro (29/3/07) on page 18.
There is a full page spread about what you can bring on board.
The rules which apply to all flights departing from any EU country (as well as Norway, Iceland and Switzerland) are here:

Many thanks to all of you for such succinct replies. Obviously suits the Air Side profit margins, as I don't really find the idea of bottles, no matter how well wrapped/packed, in the hold luggage!:-)
Even if you buy liquid (including perfume) in the duty free (airside) area at your initial departure point, if you subsequently pass through another european airport to go onto a second flight (e.g Lisbon to Newcastle via Gatwick) then you would likely lose any/everything above 100ml in size at security at the intermediate airport (e.g. Gatwick).
