has anybody been refused usa holiday visa if so did you still travel?.
And what happened when you landed at airport.

I dont remember needing a visa for USA when I went to New York and LA (different years) on British passport - if you been turned down for visa there ior anywhere there is no point turning up wihtout one as you wont get in - US security was tight both times i went there

Thank you Memore my partner has motoring offences and he was charged he was refused a visa for usa last year.
His circumstances have not changed and we feel he will probably be refused again.
The woman who interviewed him was horrid and the usa embassy in london are ( i think ) very harsh .

I suspect you are not telling us everything. Unless the motoring offences were exceedingly serious (eg deliberate running down of a pedestrian or forgery of an insurance certificate) they are unlikely to be grounds for refusing a visa - I suspect they had some other reason for refusing. 'Likely to overstay' is the most common reason.

If you have been refused a visa it is likely that (maybe after a delay and probably not very efficiently) you will get flagged in the US Immigration warnings computer for secondary processing on arrival (it won't necessarily say why you are being flagged so you still stand a chance of getting in if they don't quiz you too closely - people using stolen passports have got in despite being flagged.)

So unless being turned down was a total misunderstanding on the US part another year isn't going to make much difference. And the chances of being picked up on arrival without a visa are greater than normal.

Hi dzug thank you for that bit of info, my partner has 2 offences 1 driving while he was banned and 2 driving with no insurance this was 9 years ago.

Jonno Genie i feel a bit insulted by your comments, and just for the record we are not scum of the earth criminals my partner has maid to silly mistakes and YES he regrets it .
He also dedicates his time to charity work for the elderly .
So is it just us you HATE or everyone on A.B. with a criminal record . what or who gives you the right to judge people you do not know.
So to day go through the list on been refused or do i need a visa because of criminal record and say nasty things to them.

Megan, my admittedly intemporate comments were not aimed at you at all. They were aimed at FilthiestFis (whose original comments have subsequently now been edited by AnswerBank, so the context is lost).

I was irritated that anyone might think being allowed to enter the US (or indeed any other country) is a right as opposed to a privillege.

p.s. An important note Megan on your original question. To enter on the Visa Waiver Scheme you have to declare whether you have ever been refused a visa. If you lied, and they discovered this in 'secondary inspection' I would fully expect them to deport you there and then.

Hi jonno Genie belive it or not i am pleased you have getting back to me, my partner is a qualified chef and i an auxiliary nurse.
My partner doe's charity work at our local social club for the O A P's they get three trips a year and a christmas dinner.
Yes he regrets his silly mistake and we our not looking for any-kind of sympathy just some of ABers good advice.
Two of my very dear friends live in atlanter usa and it is them who we will stay with, my friends are accountants.
We also have the backing of our local MP .

Going back to the visa question........ The airline you are flying with won't even let you on their plane if you haven't got a visa for your destination (if you need one) because they would have to fly you back at their expense.

So the situation of landing at an airport without a visa won't even arise.

Maybe so, but most visitors to the US do not need a visa.
