Oslo (lowcost airport: Torp) is a great place to visit IMHO with top museums, food, accomodation and people... though I've heard first-timers complain it's grey and dull. The weather is hugely important - choose either serious snow or wait til summer and get the excellent summer sunshine. The bits in between can be wet, dull and dreary. As well as Torp, Ryanair also flies to Haugesund on the west coast, south of Bergen. Nice small town in itself, wonderful coastline with islands, inlets and beautiful views - not to mention easy access to the more remote off-shore island of Utsira (as in 'North Utsira, South Utsira' in the shipping forecast!) which is a bird-watchers' paradise... and a great place to unwind, hike, snooze etc. Ryanair links to
