At the start of the cruise you can pack bottles into your cases and they will almost certainly get aboard no problem, as you do not carry them on. On embarkation day you will almost certainly not get anything on board in carry on luggage. If you buy stuff in port, on Princess they will let you bring it aboard and take to your cabin to do what you want with it. RC will confiscate any booze until disembarktion day, unless it is wine which you want to have in the restaurant. Both lines will charge corkage for this of about $15 a bottle. If you are going on a different line go to

We've travelled on both Diamond Princess and Golden Princess and had no trouble whatever taking alchohol on board but have seen several empty gin/vodka bottles abandoned in the waste bins n the airport toilets so obviously lots of people use the tried and tested mehtod of filling a water bottle with firewater! That's what I plan to do on my next cruise as the cruiseline has a reputation for being eagle eyed
You take a litre bottle of water out when going off the ship for the day (ideally in an cooler sleeve) then buy your tipple, empty contents of water bottle, replace with spirit of your choice and then reboard, putting the bottle still in its cover through the x-ray system. Works every time.
With the prices they charge (and add 15% service on top) do I feel guilty. NO WAY.
I still fork out 18 for a bottle of wine each night so they don't do too bad out of me.
