Can anyone advise, please? A friend of mine, over 85 would like to go abroad, but the insurance companies are quoting over 1,000 for insurance. Is this right ?
It depends really. How long are they going for - a week or 3 months in the sun? Do they have numerous medical conditions or are they fit and healthy other than being elderly?
There are many companies that specialise in travel insurance for older people, have you tried them? Here is the link to Age Concern but if you google, there are many others:
When an insurance company charge a high premium (for anything) it usually means they dont want the business.
After all, all insurance is "risk" for the insurance company, and for the cost of a few pounds from the insured person they could have to pay out thousands.
The company have obviously decided that the "risk" on a 85 year old is just not worth it.
They would probably rather insure a load of families in their 30s or 40s who are probably far less risk.
intune offer travel insurance with no upper age limit they also cover most pre-existing medical conditions, and off single or annual insurance. You can even get a 10% discount online, you can check out them out at www.intunegroup.co.uk you can even call them for a quote.
