Does anyone know of a site where I can search for the lowest fare available between two airports without having to enter a specific date? All the ones I know about ask for this and then perhaps additionally give you a result for a day or two at either side. I want to know when I can go cheapest, not how much it costs at any specific given time. I am particularly interested in international flights, including long haul.

There are some sites like www.cheapflights.co.uk & www.skyscanner.net where you can get some idea but I haven't found them very satisfactory except as a rough guide. Quite often too the cheapest flights are indirect and can take up to twice as long as a direct flight.

The low season is always cheapest of course so if you establish that period for the place you are going to it narrows your search dates down. Of course the low season may also mean it is cold - or, if tropical, extremely wet.

I have found that I need to establish a time of year and then just slog my way through the main sites. Lastminute.com is a useful site now that you can tick the flexible date box & also look at direct only or all flights. It is easy enough to find the cheapest flights over a 4-6 week period for instance.

Perhaps the easiest way is to phone & put it in the hands of Travelbag or Travelmood or Trailblazers - the specialist long distance companies.

yeah like the other answer really, skyscanner is really good but you will need to enter a date and you can go through month by month.
aerlingus will let you look at a monthly overview and the same for easyjet.

I have yet to find any agency or site that can search any other way than by specific date, and then laboriously date after date. I am puzzled by the recommendation to look at scyscanner.net. Either I am missing something or there is no possibility to search in a single move by entire month there - what I find instead seems simply to be an encyclopedia of links to sites that search day by day.
