It's great. Went in the summer of 2006 and it is so picturesque. Would go again at the drop of a hat. Take in some of the music (pretty cheap) - may not be your cup of tea (as it isn't mine) but the experience of seeing a small orchestra play is pretty different. The buildings are fab ...
My Daughter and Husband went for 5 days just after Christmas .it was a Christmas present from their Daughter.they had a wonderful time. They said they were out walking around all day in bitterly cold sunny weather and the sightseeing was fantastic. They said mulled wine was available at loads of street stalls which warmed them up.They said that they wouldnt want to go in the Summer as it would be too crowded but want to go again in Winter.
It's a beautiful place though tourist driven and can be very expensive in the touristy areas. It's not bad compared to say London but not as cheap as it used to be - they have the tourists sussd, there's a bit tipping culture and in some places you need to get a real grip on the conversion rate and make sure your bill is right to avid getting ripped off.

It can be very busy in the main areas as chocabloc with tourists which can make sightseeing slow going.

It's pretty small so you can walk round the city easily, getting to the castle and cathedral may be an issue for anyone with certain health issues though as it's a very long steep road.

Me and my other half wnt and had a fantastic time, highlight being a romantic dinner on a heated roof terrace overlooking Charles Bridge all lit up at night.

We stayed at the 987 Design Prague hotel as got a great deal. Very modern, fantastic beds and showers and good breakfast buffet! It's 5 mins walk from Wenceslas Square with a great and very cheap bistro and little shop/off licence on the way.
Loved it would definately go back. Not as cheap when there as people had said but as mentioned previously is better when a bit more out the centre. We got a cheap deal with globespan and stayed on botel albatros - it was cheap and very basic but something different as on the water(it is static though). We did the walking tour - lasted about 4 hours with stop off for lunch but gave you a good idea of the place. We went in October and did have some rain but other than that there was sunshine and we sat in the square drinking beer just in long sleeve tshirt - colder at night though. Would go back in a minute - if not so many other places to see.
It's beautiful but busy especially around Easter. There are some fantastic restaurants & Obechne Dum is a stunning setting for coffee & cake. Watch out for the beer - it's very cheap & very strong.
My favourite European city - I worked there for a time and go at least twice a year. As others have said, it's changed over the last few years and has become far more glossy-touristy with consequent price rises, though it's still reasonably priced by GB standards and if you get out of the centre can be very cheap. I can't, I'm afraid, agree about the "tipping culture"; the Czech tradition has always been simply to round up to the nearest convenient figure and big tips are not expected. If you find hotel/restaurant staff expecting big tips you're being ripped off. I'd avoid the taxis - apart from taking your life in your hands you'll be overcharged like there's no tomorrow. Public transport is easy, cheap, reliable and safe - use it and you can get almost anywhere quickly. It gets uncomfortably hot and humid in the summer, so I'd recommend going between September and May if you can; June can be quite nice, but only if there happens to be a fairly constant breeze. I try not to go in July or August unless it's absolutely necessary; apart from the heat & humidity the place is crowded, the prices jacked up and most of the theatres are closed.
Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. I had flat shoes but could have done with more robust walking shoes/boots as the cobbles can be a killer. They make your ankles sore. Had a great time in November but it was seriously cold. Take care on public transport and around busy parts as the pickpockets are very good. We ate at The Konvict which was very good and cheap, being off the main tourist drag. I would go to Prague again but only in the winter and preferably midweek to avoid the stag parties.
Did go, did like it, did enjoy it and will go back. But did have some yobs try to mug me and until his fingers were snapped the little sh+t would not give up. Just be aware there are lots of thefts reported and be vigilant. But do go.
Excellent advice on footwear - a great city to walk round but the uneven pavements can be hard work. Don't know what kind of accommodation you're looking for, but if you don't want 4 & 5 star hotels (with very high prices!) there are some real bargains out in the suburbs. We always stay in a very friendly and clean B&B aboyt 20 mins out of the centre by tram - the tram is 3 mins walk and the metro 6 mins. There are also a couple of good hotels nearby.

Speaking of trams, the No 22 is the cheapest sightseeing tour in Prague; it crosses the city roughly east to west, and goes almost everywhere of interest for a Prague first-timer!
