Brisbane would mostly be a bit hot for me, but if you don't mind that it has better beaches. Adelaide has more culture and better wine.

No contest, Adelaide is by far the better bet for me. Adelaide has more culture, the vineyards and is the more liberal of the two cities. If you read the Guardian go to Adelaide. If you read the Daily Mail, however, you are probably better off in Brisbane
