Las Vegas Hotels
Can anyone tell me which hotel is the best for location on the Las Vegas strip, please?
From what I can gather, the strip is pretty long, so I'm looking for somewhere pretty central.
Thanks

You might well do, lol, also when you arrive at the airport you can get mini bus that will take you to any hotel on the strip, it is only a few dollars so don't get a taxi. some great shows on as well, please don't stop in the stratosphere, the tower is well worth visiting, think it is 84 storeys up, mad views, enjoy it. :-)
Stratosphere is the one with the rollercoaster but I didn't do it, it was on my list of to dos but I felt I could do better with my time.
Please try the buffet at MGM grand (lunchtime is cheaper) it was THE best!!!!!!!
Also splash out on a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon , lifetime experience not to be missed. Book before you go.

Thank you all so much, you're all naming hotels I recognise so I'll keep my choices narrowed to those.
We're driving there so I don't need to worry about getting from the airport and I'm definately booking the chopper flight over the GC. I want to walk along that new bit jutting out of the GC, if I get the chopper, will it be an either or choice?

We went last year and stayed at the Hilton, it wasn't on the Strip, but the monorail has a stop right outside so getting around wasn't a problem. Most of the monorail stops are right at the back of the hotels and you have a very long walk to get to them or to the front of the hotel to the Strip. We did the helicopter ride over the GC and it was fantastic, we saw the glass platform on the way out and I must say I wasn't very impressed. It seemed to be in the middle of nowhere and I would think could only be accessed by quite a long and dusty road trip. We only saw one show whilst we were there, which was Cirque du Soleil Mystere which was incredible.
I try and go every year 'cos its like Disney for adults, I prefer to stay down the end where the Luxor, NY NYork, MGM & Excalibur as they are all linked by the walkway and you can use the buses that stop outside and run up and down the strip. The Bellagio sounds great but you only want somewhere to put your head down there is so much to see and do you wont spend much time there.
Whatever you do dont stay at Circus Circus that really is run down but the buffet is good, but I agree that MGM Sunday champagne buffet will take a lot of beating.
If your in the middle of the Strip in the afternoon and you want to rest your weary feet [ comfy shoes a must] go to the street level bar at Wild Bills Saloon[ formerly the Barbary Coast hotel] and for the price of a drink go sit down & see "Big Elvis" perform, you wont be disappointed he is great. Lots of Brits great atmosphere.
If you want to get away from all the hustle and bustle go to MGM and buy a bus ticket to Primm, it takes about 45 mins and lets you see the surrounding area and its a shopping discount mall and a couple of hotels, the bus comes back every hour or so, just blows the cobwebs away.
Unfortunately the free bus & free lunch trip to Loughlin has stopped.
Just let your hair down & enjoy the craziness of it all, take in at least one show, you can usually buy tickets on the same day as you want to go, we usually buy the cheapest seats and as we are being shown where to go, wave a $20 dollar bill at the usher [ dont hand over till your seated], you would be surprised how quickly you get ushered into the "elite" seats. dont forget to go Downtown one evening, its a great street party .

hey Dee Sa,, where is downtown in las vegas?
would not recommend the luxor, rundown and we got bed bug bites, yak!! excalibur ,mgm, paris, planet hollywood are good. new york new york has the rollercoaster, the stratosphere also has 2 rides at the very top, one that swings you over the edge. its a dump down this end though so would not stay in the stratosphere itself. there are frequent buses along the strip, $5 for 24 hours. its true that the monorails are so far behind the hotels that it takes about 15 mins to walk to them, ok for going to stratosphere though!
we are taking inlaws next month. as part of a grand canyone trip and hoover dam, it includes a free skywalk on the glass walkway.
barry manilow was fab at the hilton, only seats 750 people so very intimate and free cocktails on back of the ticket! hope you have a fab time, it certainly comes alive at night in more ways than one, you will see what i mean!

stayed in Luxor last year, in the new wing and you could not fault it.
I have stayed in the lot down there, liked NYNY the best, but was eating in their steak house and just put my knife in the steak and at the same timethere was this blood curdling scream from someone on their roller coaster that runs through the hotel ! put me right off.
Although the Rio is a bit way out, its worth going there to see the free show/ carnival that takes place about 3 times a day all the floats are suspended from the ceiling and you can actually take part for a few dollars and ride in a float.
Downtown is old Vegas wher it all began and there are casinos etc down there- are you sure you dont know about it ? and there is a free lazer show in the sky each night and its pedestrians only, and lots of stalls and activity and street bands etc, we usually go down to see the Elvis show at 10pm, so get there abour 6pm have a meal [ much cheaper than the Strip] have a walk around and see the show than get a cab back, to get there we take the monorail to the Sahara and then a bus downtown from there and eat at Fitzgeralds [with a wheelchair too].
Theres on old fashioned bus at the airport, you buy your ticket at a booth there, it will drop you off to your hotel and you ring when you want to return and once again it will pick you up and return you to the airport. Also on arrival the hotel bell hop willtake your luggage and give you a ticket [ tip him $1 dollar per luggage item] this leaves you hassle free to check in, sometimes the lines for check in are big, ask for a copy of "Whats On" at check in, so you dont miss out on anything and then when you get to your room call for your luggage [ tip again], same when you leave the luggage wil be returned to you as you step into the bus, for the few dollars it costs its well worth it.
Have fun, thats what its all about.

lots of Americans use the Flamingo, its not usually offered to the Brits in the travel brochures. If you have a late buffet breakfast there[after 11am] half way through they change everything over to lunch, so you get the best of both, their omelettes where you pick up the ingrediants you want and hand it over to the chef are excellent.
Sorry earlier I forgot you stated you were driving and would not be using the airport.
When you going sightseeing at the top of the Stratosphere- ask them which direction AREA 51 is --- they wont tell you !!!!
