There isn't a good restaurant in Scarborough. The place is a dump. If you like amusement arcades, dirty streets, run down shops and sand in your fish and chips, then this is the place for you! Even the MacDonalds is a hovel! The town is only famous for one thing - the Valley Bridge that suicidal people throw themselves from.
Are you travelling there by train/bus?
If you have a car I can recommend some fab eateries within a 20 mile radius.

The town pubs are rubbish - the only half decent one is a music venue called Indigo Alley, opp. the fire station. The nearest decent place for food is The Three Jolly Sailors at Burniston (10 miles out on the Whitby Road). They do a good carvery. If you're willing to travel 15 miles to Robin Hoods Bay there is a good bistro in the old village at the bottom of the hill (I forget its name). You could always head to Whitby and try the Red Chard restaurant (best steaks in the world), Harrys Bar (Tapas style dishes), The Moon & Sixpence bistro or The Magpie for fish & chips.
Sorry to sound so negative about Scarborough but it really is like a town in a communist country.

Zacsmaster - as a true Yorkshireman you should speak your mind!
I was conned into going to a colleagues birthday bash in a Scarborough pub recently. The entertainment was a singer called Seaside Danny Wilde. I don't want to be sued by him but his name should give you a clue. I got my hopes up when, after an out of tune medley of hits from the 1950's he announced he was going to sing something more modern. He then launched into a string of songs from the early 1960's.
The food was stale sausage rolls, sarnies with the edges curled up and the beer was warm.
It was like being in a nightmare episode of Heartbeat, and the sad thing was, the locals thought it was a brilliant night out.

We have been to Scarboro for loads of holidays and yes, South Bay is full of amusment arcades and chavs but its a damned site cleaner and civilised than Blackpool and the town centre is a dream compared to the cesspit they call Oldham (the nearest town to me unfortunatly). The good thing about Scarboro is that you can leave all the noise and tat behind and within 5 mins be somewhere like Scalby or Ayton.
My recommends would be a knickerbocker glory at the Harbour Bar in South Bay, an open top bus ride along the sea front to North Bay followed by a big mug of coffee and a piece of Millionaires Shortbread at Cafe Del Mar and fish & chips for tea.
We have eaten at Bonnets restaurant which I think is on Huntress Row in the town centre but its a couple of years back. It was very nice and bistro like. We got kids now so if we eat out its usually pizza at Ask on the front at South Bay.
