Am I entiteld to compensation/reimbursement from the airline if my flight is delayed? I was delayed for just under 12 hours. They have offered me a 'free' round-trip ticket. (I have to pay taxes, etc and can only take the ticket on certain dates!) Is this all I'm entitled to? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I think Ben is right - airlines do compensate as a goodwill gesture, but I'm pretty sure they are not obliged to do so. Ever wondered about that forest of small print on the booking form? It'll be in there - if you can be bothered! Personally I'd take my trip and smile, but have a word with your insurance, but be prepared to be stymied again - more small print!
You weren't holidaying in Zante were you? The same thing happened to me in September, and since then I have been sent a letter of apology from the airline and says I can claim some money back through the insurance. I really wasn't expecting anything at all, not too sure how much it's going to be. Try giving your insurance company a ring
