Try the left bank area across the Seine from Notre Dame
for walking around and seeing the sites. A lot of good resturants. This is the area that was inhabited by both English and American novelists during the turn of the century. If you have read any of those novels(particularly Hemmingway) you will recognize streets and other places of interest. The night tour on the river of the monuments when they are lighted is a good way of seeing everything in a short period of time.
If you're there on a first Sunday of the month the Louvre is free. Get there for opening time before the crowds.
Sacr Coeur and Montmartre are worth seeing too.
If you like shopping go to La Defense there's a huge shopping centre just as you get out of the RER station.
