Are Hayes and Jarvis like the equivalent of Thomas Cook for the north? I haven't heard of them before?

Don't quite fathom the reference to TC, but Hayes and Jarvis have been a good company to travel with in my experience.
Well they are based in Crawley which is hardly the north.

I'd say they are a bit more upmarket than Thos Cook is these days - mostly long haul and exotic destinations at the luxury end of the market

Ah, thanks.

Ref TC i meant like a well known company and had heard they were more well known in the north than the south...
for some reason a great many of Britain's most upmarket holiday companies are based in Cheshire. Not H&J, though. But they're posher than Cook's. (Cook's is now German-owned.)
They are upmarket and nothing like TC at all! More akin to Kuoni IMHO
Just to say that I too know them to be more upmarket and interestingly friends of mine have just booked a holiday with them to Thailand and got a much better deal for the same holiday than Virgin or TC were offering - so don't think that just because they are more up market they are more expensive check it out. Just come back from Turkey with TC and wrote complaining on 7th July and again on 2nd August and have not had any replies to either - so I am not a TC fan right now.

Thanks all, we booked out holiday with H&J. They were a lot cheaper than everyone else especially with their online discount!
