Although Cyprus is politically (and largely culturally) within Europe, it's geographically in Asia. The TomTom One XL's coverage doesn't extend anywhere near that far.

Actually, their definition of 'Europe' seems to only cover Western Europe, because only these countries are covered:
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain (+ Canary Islands), Sweden, Switzerland and Vatican City

We found it difficult to find any half decent maps of Cyprus, never mind a TomTom working lol

If you want to prepare before you go, just buy a map from the world's largest (and best) supplier of maps and guides. I mean, of course, the wonderful Stanfords:
