going to new zealand in september, to christchurch....
Any tips/advice before going ?

Don't take any food in your suitcases for consumption once you are there.

thanks , i was thinking more flight wise, things to do etc
take a brolly. Christchurch is comparatively dry, but NZ isn't green by magic.

If you are flying via Australia, get their free eVisitor 'visa' - you might not need it, but you don't want to be stuck airside overnight if you miss a connecting flight.

If you are flying via the US then an ESTA is a must.

Go down the Banks Peninsula to Akaroa, a beautiful place and a wonderful drive. As for the journey, keep yourself sane by thinking of all the fun you'll have when you get there, take a couple of days in Singepore if you're going that way, what the security ,man at Heathrow called the short way round.
for the sake of your body clock it's usually easier to follow the sun - ie fly west. That would mean going out via, say, LA and back via HK, Tokyo, Bangkok, Singapore or some such place. 24+ hours either way.
