how long will my passport run for

I'm travelling to Portugal in May2005 and my passport runs out in September2005 do I have to renew it before I travel

I'm only sixteen and i dont really know much about this kinda stuff so you might want to check but.... i seam to remember when i went on holiday last year that my passport had to be valid six months after i returned to the UK but that might just have been the country I was staying in because it was outside of Europe.

You've got to have a minimum of 6 months left on your passport before you travel.

....and the 6 months applies to the return date as well - a friend was not allowed to board a plane home with a passport with less than 6 months validity.  Quite possibly one of the most stupid rules in existence
