Occasionally, I will be making the trip by road from Dover to Scunthorpe. The area just north of Cambridge (M11 / A14 junction around Bar Hill) is an ideal half-way point to stop for lunch. Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice village pub which does bar meals in that immediate vicinity?

Try the Queens Head in Newton, a little further south as you'd need to come off at Jct 10, it's a superb pub, the soup is a house speciality, see this review in The Independent http://www.independen...ad-newton-770798.html

Thanks very much; it sounds ideal! However, having looked at a map, wouldn't it be easier to come off at Junction onto the A10 and then take the B1368?

Sorry, I meant Junction 11.
Try This its just a little futher on than bar hill but well worth it

I was assuming that you were travelling North, Jct 10 to 11 is about 7.5km, 11 to Newton is about 4.5km, 10 to Newton is just over 5km via Whittlesford, probably not a huge time saving but I hate going back on myself :-)

Thanks, secsee1, that's an intriguing suggestion as we live in Belgium. Definitely worth at least a try-out.
