It's finally coming into force in July this year.
Question Author
thanks for such a prompt answer
De nada ;-)
NoMercy. When you say its coming in this July,I was under the impression its been in force for a couple of years,I may be wrong.I never did or do understand what place could have smoking and what place couldnt.Something to do with size of the bar etc.You see the signs all over Fumar permit en esta establismento.
Hi Malagabob... the "law" was introduced a few years back and frankly has been flouted ever since. Most establishments display signs saying, "Se permite fumar in este establicimiento.."

From a given date in July, smoking will no longer be permissable in ANY establishment.
Will Tenerife and the other spanish islands be included?
The Spanish ... like the French, Portuguese and Italians ...

... will no doubt continue to ignore the ban.
In fact everywhere in Europe, apart from us, one of the colder countries and we all go out in the cold for a ciggie!
and die younger, JJ? Those countries ought to be a lot richer, with all the money they save on not paying out pensions.
actually, I've just checked and Italians and Spaniards live longer than Brits, but mainly because their women do; male expectancy is about the same. Maybe Spanish and Italian women smoke less?
I don't think there are any Italian women who don't smoke.

It's like Paris. All the girls smoke.

In fact ... it's like a lot of school playgrounds.
it could be a lifestyle thing, maybe they dont do the big 3 simultaneously ( binge drinking, poor diet and smoking) which seems to have become our way of life in this country for a lot of people. doing just one of the 3 instead of all 3 would reduce their risk factors for dying young
then it must be because they spend more time either working in the kitchen or parading down the street wearing furs. Or maybe just looking chic prolongs your life. Whatever, if they could just bottle it...
I was in Tenerife two years ago in Peurto de la Cruz and there was no smoking in the lounge bar, had to go outside, I don't smoke now but it was a bit of a pain going outside in the evenings early April and not that warm. At least they had balconies in the rooms so I could have a ciggy before bed. Same in Majorca in Cala Bona, but I seem to remember smoking in the lounge early evening, ashtrays still there on the tables.
There are only 2 types of "mature" Italian ladies ...

(1) Elephantine, with a moustache ... non smoker ... lives on pasta.

(2) Uber-glamorous ... wear furs ... smokes ... looks like Sophia Loren.

Both types live to about 105.

In that regard ... it is rather like Hove, Actually, or Eastbourne.

you forgot "smells like an ashtray, coughs like a navvy"
Aah ... so you'd be an "anti smoker" then, cazzz ?

=0)
lol no, just the realist...
you forgot "smells like an ashtray, coughs like a navvy"
and cazz you forgot "Spits like a cowboy, swears like a trooper, fights like boxer"
That's an interesting take on Italian ladies, bigfoot !
