Insurance for over 80s please help

Hi I am taking my Mum on holiday in september and we are trying to find travel insurance for her but it is all very expensive. She is 81 and has some health issues does anyone know of a reasonable price insurance? I have tried EHIC plus but they only cover Europe and we were hoping for Tunisia or Turkey

It does get difficult over 75, then even more difficult over 80.
Have you tried Age Concern?
I am sure you will appreciate that the premium is driven by risk factors and age in your Mum's case is the overriding one.

I've posted that link, here on AB, dozens of times and several people have been kind enough to let me know that they've managed to find insurance, at a reasonable cost, through it. I hope that it's of similar use to you.

Thankyou for your replys. I did try age concern but they wanted £174 for 1 week ! I have found a company called flexicover and will try them in the morning.

maclaren, I use Flexicover for my mum. She only recently turned 80 so hasn`t used it since then, but was using it when she was 79. Age concern, saga etc are all really expensive. When you book them (you can do it online) there is a section to declare pre-existing medical conditions (you used to have to phone them but now you can do that online too which is good) You can then chose to get insurance without cover for those conditions. It depends what the conditions are of course but in my mum`s case (breast cancer) it was ok to have that excluded as she wasn`t likely to keel over from it while on holiday. She also has high blood pressure which was no problem

My wife and I are in our 70's also with medical issues.I have just done some shopping around and had some crazy quotes .9 months ago my wife had a triple Vascular Bypass followed by a lower leg amputation.We got a good deal for two weeks from World First insurance. Give them a ring on 08459080161.

Pick up a leaflet from your local post office,they do good holiday ins: and they do cover pre-excisting illness which is not out of the way price wise.

I have to buy travel insurance for pre-existing conditions and I travel frequently - mostly worldwide long distance travel. I have found that insurance varies depending on where I am going. Whilst one company can be reasonable for Turkey, the same company can be very expensive for USA.You just have to ring round and get quotes.I recently travelled to Turkey for 6 days and paid £102 - which was the best quote I had - with Orbis 01424 220110. For the USA however they want £166 for 8 days and they will only insure me for a single trip not annual. Age Concern however want £254 for the same trip - but have offered me an annual policy for £183!!!! I would try 4 or 5 companies if I was you. Flexicover wanted £758 for an annual policy!! So you just can't tell until you call with your details. I seem to use a different company each time I travel.

Thankyou I have now tried all the ones you have suggested and the best one is still saga unbelievably at £143 for i week in Turkey. I am sure someone in the insurance business is making a lot of money from these policies. I have just tried to renew my husbands annual insurance and because he has just been diagnosed with OCPD the policy has gone from £183 last year to £475 this year!! I will just have to keep trying.

Hi, have you tried the ALL CLEAR travel insurance website. My parents were quoted insurance at twice the price of the holiday by some companies but found all clear quite reasonable. Worth a look.
