I am planning to drive in the USA. After talking to a hire company I was told that I will have to show a record of my driving history. Does anyone know what this requires? Is my paper part of my licence ok as it shows what I am able to drive and any speeding endorsements. Or is it a record of my insurance they are after showing if I have been involved in any accidents? Any help on this would be greatly received.

The only thing I needed was my UK driver's licence and a credit card.
Likewise, a UK license and credit card worked in a number of States.  There is a possibility of State specific rules, but I'm not aware of any.
I've driven in Florida a few times and have only ever needed to show my driving license and a credit card.  We're told to take both the card and paper parts of our license, although to date, we've never had to show the paper part.  But take it in case.

I am of sufficiently mature years to still have an old style green driving licence - no plastic, no photograph - with a few not very recent endorsements.  I have rented cars in the USA and Canada without any trouble at all.  I have never been quizzed about my accident record. They just want to see the colour of your money - or rather your credit card - and your passport as photo ID.

Incidentally, I would heartily recommend Alamo Gold.  There are none of those annoying hidden extras like super collision damage waiver.  They charge an all-inclusive rate which includes a tank of petrol so you don't have to go and fill up at the last minute.

we have just returned from a two week trip in the usa, we started in New York with a hire car and drove through 15 states ending in Washington DC. At no time did the hire company want to see a driving history. We also called the company beforehand to ask and they said no. We have driven many times and only ever needed our driving licence.
