Not sure about the European destinations, as I ski in USA. However, to get the most out of any skiing trip you choose, I would recommend that you have at least one or two lessons at your local dry or artificial slope before your holiday to familiarise yourself with the art of skiing. It is always best to at least have basic skills and understanding before investing such large amounts of money on such a holiday, to get the most out of your time there. Try expedia.co.uk or a similar website, and play around with some different destinations/packages to see which one suits you.

Andorra or Bulgaria may be a good starting points for you and your family.

The ski schools are excellent, and are especially used to dealing with beginners, and school trips.

Try 'Balkan Tours' or 'Panorama'.

I would recommend Chamonix or Grand Massif, as yes Bulgaria and Andorra are cheap but the apres ski tends to cater for the younger market and not for families. Chamonix have good hire shops and new equipment plus an extensive range of instruction. Also Le Tour is a very nice easy learning area. Try going places or for more price breakdown try www.chamonet.com . P.S both are in the French Alps and only 45mins to 1hr30 transfer.

thankyou all

Can recommend a great place in France - Flaine.

It is great for beginners - we used to go as a group of around 10 and that included little ones in the group too.  The bunny slopes are great for kids and adults, and the kids ski school was really enjoyed by our friends children.  Plus the apre ski is fun for all the family.

If you do feel a little more adventureous there are good runs for all levels of skiers.
