For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Oxfordshire in general, or more specifically, Woodstock/Chipping Norton/Burford which are all quaint market towns with good restaurants and pubs. Or some of the smaller places like Faringdon makes a good base for trips to the Thames, the Vale of White Horse, shopping in Swindon or Oxford etc. There's also some great walking and National Trust sites in the area (if that's your thing). Take a look at http://www.faringdon.org
I've had a few weekends away and I've yet to find anywhere better than the Celtic Manor resort in Newport, Wales. Take a look at the website www.celtic-manor.com. Only 90 mins from London. It's not overly expensive, the rooms are wonderful, as are the restaurants & the gym / spa / pool etc.Highly recommend it!
We had a long weekend in Stratford-upon-Avon in the autumn which was fab. Spend time around the town, and also visited Warwick Castle and the Cotswalds. Cadburys World is also not too far from there, but we couldn't fit that in! There's a great restaurant, called Sheeps, and I'd thoroughly recommend it.
