How have you attempted to make the name changes? It's cheaper online than via the call centre:

Budget airlines deliberately keep their charges for name changes high to avoid ticket touting. Otherwise people could buy up all of the cheap fares as soon as they became available and then later sell them on, at a profit, once Ryanair's advertised prices started to rise.
