next point is how are you going to Ireland. if you are going by car/ferry then you will not need a passport. If going by airplane then the airline may ask for passport as form of identification at check in. Check with the airline before booking the tickets what identification is required for a 5 year old who does not have a passport. Is the child on your passport. If yes then the airline may accept it.
