passports

I have read through older threads on this one and really just want an up-to-date check.  My 5year old doesn't have a passport; will she need one for the uk to rep of ireland?  Will we need all our driving stuff, ie insurance and licences?  Cheers.

Is your child British or an EU citizen. If she is then she does not need a passport to enter the Republic of Ireland from the UK. She will need a passport if say you are going to the republic of ireland from outside the EU.

next point is how are you going to Ireland. if you are going by car/ferry then you will not need a passport. If going by airplane then the airline may ask for passport as form of identification at check in. Check with the airline before booking the tickets what identification is required for a 5 year old who does not have a passport. Is the child on your passport. If yes then the airline may accept it.

Thanks Dom I think we should be ok then.  Going on the ferry; I guess this is less hassle.  Thanks for your help.
