We are going to Cuba soon. I understand that tourists use the Cuban convertable Peso (CUC) whilst locals use the Cuban Peson (CUP)

As far as I know the CUC can only be purchased whilst in Cuba - Is this correct?

Can tourists also use the CUP - ?
that way I can buy some foreign exchange in UK - after all I'll need to get taxi from airport etc.

The internet says $ are not used - has anyone found this to not be true?

Thanks you all!!!

Me again! It's true you can only buy CUCs in Cuba, I didn't attempt to buy any CUPs but tourists are expected to pay for everything in CUCs anyway. They definitely don't use the US dollar but often refer to CUCs as dollars - confusing!!
As I said before, take a look on the Trip Advisor forum
