only got 5 weeks holiday want to fly into bangkok spend a few days than go to angkor few days than northern thailand chiang mi & pai finaily crossing the boader into laos will i have enough time do not want to be to rushed

Plently of time.  5-6 days in Bangkok to settle in, 4-6 days in Ankor is plently enough (it gets very samey).  A trek in Chiang Mai is 3-7 days depending on your tastes, around Chiang Mai is 3-4 days sightseeing.  Chiang Rai / Golden Triangle is 2-4 days.  Laos is 7 days, leaving you extra somewhere on the route or a stop off elsewhere.

In Chiang Mai most guesthouses arrange treks for you, the one i stayed at was called the 'Orchid guesthouse' and they did a good deal on a three day trek with an english speaking guide which included elephant trekking and bamboo rafting. You stay with two different hill tribes (Karen and Akha). I had a great time !!!
