TOO HOT

Does anyone really like this heat? I, for one hate it.. Don't get me wrong, I like to see the sun,but today it's just too hot.

I thought I would be in the minority not liking this weather, but it seems many of you are of the same mind. I would rather be cold than hot, at least you can generally always get warm, where as in this heat you just cannot cool down. Never happy with our weather are we, but at least it gives us all something to moan/talk about.
LoftyLottie, thanks for asking, my eye is much the same, can still see this damn 'cobweb' floating about. Hope its not too long before I get appointment....

I agree with milly actually. Whinge if it rains, whinge if it's sunny... It's lovely today, and it's just a shame I'm stuck here when i could be eating a lolly in the back yard with my book. Plus I'm the opposite, I find it much harder to warm up than I do to cool down. I am looking forward to my swim tonight, it'll be lush.

The problem with hot weather in the UK is that it is almost always accompanied by high humidity. That's what makes it uncomfortable more than the heat itself. That is why, mumsie, you cannot "cool down". I've just looked at my hygrometer (it measures Relative Humidity) and it is well over 70%. Anything above about 50% and it starts to feel decidedly "sticky".

I've just returned from a trip to Greece. I visit that country a lot as I have friends there. Last week it was well into the thirties - 38 (thats 100 in old money) on Wednesday. Yes, it was hot and it was too hot to stroll about or do any work during the height of the day, but it was nowhere near as uncomfortable as it is here today. You could still stay cool so long as you remained in the shade and drank plenty of fluids (I prefer Mythos beer to water as you have to drink more of it!). But in the evening it was delightful, about 22 or 23 degrees at midnight, but very nice because of low humidity.

Roll on the storms which will herald cooler "less sticky" air!

I agree with milly and CD.... the English love moaning about the weather no matter what it is...

somehow we also seem to have a very short memory when it comes to weather (people would moan there was no sun last year even if it had been the hottest summer on record) combined with rose tinted glasses when it comes to past weather (summers when everyone was a child always had perfect weather everyday for months on end!)

NewJudge, thanks for your reply. I can remember being in Malta when it was really hot,but not sticky like here. Humidity has a lot to answer for!!!!

I love it although I wouldn`t like to have to do any strenuous work in it. I find it never gets really unbearably humid in the UK so even when it`s 30degs it`s not too bad.

I once stepped out of the airport terminal in Singapore, and thought I was standing by the outlet of hot air from the air conditioners.

I then realised as I walked along that the whole place was that temperature and humidity.

This is nothing.
