Hurricanes and typhoons

What are the differences between a hurricane and a typhoon? i know that hurricanes are formed over water but are there other differences?

They're the same thing.

A 'strong tropical storm' (to use a generic term) is called a hurricane in the Atlantic and in the eastern Pacific ocean. In the western Pacific ocean, it's called a typhoon. (Just to complicate things further, it's called a 'cyclone' in the Indian ocean).

All of the above mentioned storm types are "Tropical Revolving Storms"
They are intense depressions which form over tropical oceans. in the "Inter Tropical Convergence Zone".

They are called hurricanes in the western Atlantic
Tropical cyclones in the south Pacific
Cyclones in the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean
and Typhoons in the seas off China
