Given the ease with which her flimsy story was picked apart I would have to conclude that she was a Tory plant, playing the charade of a 'left-whinger', with the purpose of undermining the credibility of all genuine cases on similar lines.
(I need to sidestep an analogy, based on a topical story, at this point, to avoid derailing the thread).
