The police seem to know that a gang of five youths were involved, yet nothing more it would seem.

Not if you do it yourself.
andy-hughes, //I have banged on ad nauseum that if the government put proper resources into nursery and pre-school education, we could raise a generation of children with a sense of respect for themselves, and each other,//

Parents raise children, not nurseries and schools. Abdication of responsibility is quite possibly a big part of the problem. It’s always someone else’s fault.
And the area you live in.

I don't buy that, ummmm. Ultimately parents are responsible for teaching their children to become responsible citizens.

If that question is directed at me it is the London Borough of Merton. Home to the largest Mosque in Western Europe. The one that was torched a few weeks back.

And thank goodness there are still parents who successfully bring up decent law abiding children, no matter how hard it becomes.

No argument - but my point addresses the fact that we have one - and another coming up - generation of parents who have little or no parenting skills.

The notion of educating little ones to live together without being obliged to stab each other to gain status is one that would include the ability to bond with other people. This will then follow them through into adult life, and ideally include the basic notions of parenting - love and support and affirmation - all the necessary ingredients for a peaceful society, that are slowly but surely slipping away.
// the police are losing the battle partly,it would seem, because of criticism for targeting certain gangs with stop and search. It is regarded an abuse by the police and unfair. Well the whingers will reap what they sow!! //

Or the Police might be losing the battle in Essex because their budget has been cut by £62million meaning 190 less PCSOs jobs in Essex, and 15 police stations closing. You do indeed reap what you sow.
Come off it Gromit. We’re reaping what liberal do-gooders have sown.
PCSO's do not have the authority to stop and search. Not in London or anywhere else I imagine. They could stop traffic outside schools for children to cross safely providing there are any left in school and not out dealing.

Does the sun ever penetrate your world - however briefly?
All the time. I look at the real world without the use of rose tinted spectacles.
