If I do a full copy of my system before the Windows 10 deadline,next year, will I be able to run Windows 7 for the next five years safely & with support from Microsoft? But in 2020 would I then have to buy the latest OS?
Any thoughts on the best way to proceed,given the 'chaos' currently surrounding the Win Ten upgrade?

Windows 7 never "runs out" so you never HAVE to buy the latest OS.

There are still millions around the world running Windows XP which went out of support a while ago.

However once Microsoft stop supporting W7 then it may be time to move off it for security reasons.

When you say "do a full copy" what do you mean? Why do you want to "do a full copy" of Windows 7?

The deadline in July next year is only to get a FREE copy of Windows 10.

At that time Windows 7 will not stop working and you can carry on using it.

You are under no obligation to go to Windows 10 if you don't want to.

Also what "chaos" is there about Windows 10 upgrades?

I gather about 100 million people have already done the upgrade and probably most of them are using Windows 10 quite happily (though some of course may have problems).

So what is the chaos?

Perhaps using the word 'chaos' was not appropriate VHG but,as a pensioner on a fixed income I can't afford to replace my two MAIN programs,mainly Adobe CS5 and LR5 - these cost me a fortune so I don't want to lose them! Could I perhaps run my current system along-side the inevitable upgrade to Windows 10,where I could run things like communications,spreadsheets,etc?
I have plenty of capacity to be adaptable?
Any advice will be really appreciated.
