I use one the same as this, very easy to fold and of courae adjustable to make sure you get the right height. Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation Available everywhere.

If you are going to have a cane, have a nice one, I have several, it's a form of dress statement, a rustic blackthorn one for country walks, my best show-off one belonged to my grandfather the shaft is jet-black ebony, separated from the horn grip by a one inch pure gold band. It gives me a sense of well-being to walk with it. Aluminium ? bah!
One word of caution Bathy....how tall are you ?

The reason I ask is because if you are very tall, the stick might have to be extended to its maximum extent, and it won't be so stable.

My advice is to ignore ebay and go and find some and try them out.

Will do, Mikey. Are you on Facebook? Cos I bore the pants off my friends on there talking about my weird and wonderful life ;)

Stuey - I have a fold up stick - I don't need it all the time but its handy to pop in a shopping bag and take with you in case you need it. Also its easier to fold and stick in the trunk of a small car -you know cars are tiny over here - ;-)
Bathy...I am indeed on Facebook, somewhat on sufferance ! I was bullied into joining by my nieces !

I paid a fiver for my 2 from Ebay, and I have not been disappointed very good value for money.
Just make sure you get one with adjustable height - very important.
I take Khandro's point, but if you need the availability of folding the stick then an expensive cane won't do - plus you need to be measured well for one as if you buy the wrong height it will do more harm than good.

The one Baths has bought is height adjustable - good luck with it Baths.
As a postscript whilst nosying last night I treated myself to a cute floral one too, lol.

I'm pretty sure a tiny Timpson's is in my town centre, and although I've already bought my stick..(plain black Mamya, not a shameful multicoloured one like yours;))
I need a new ferrule, + I remember getting one for the old guy next door, at that branch, so thanks for reminder, Mikey.
Incidentally,...did I scare you away when I mentioned Facebook, lol :D

I'm thinking of adding some fairy lights for a festive touch? Too much do you think?
Question Author
just as long as they are plain white, no coloured,...that would be OTT.

I am, Mamya! Especially the loop where I can hang it rather than leaving it propped up somewhere balancing precariously ready to drop to the floor ;) x x
