My mother is 87 and has read all the classic works of fiction by Dickens,Wilkie Collins, Thomas Hardy etc.Can anyone recommend a book I could buy her for Christmas.Any ideas are much appreciated.
Georgette Heyer's novels are excellent , as Jourdain has said. I love them and have read them all, transports you back to Regency England. Anything by Bill Bryson is good, I particularly enjoyed Down Under about his trip to Australia. Jean Plaidy's historical novels are also good and very well researched. Hope you manage to find something that your Mother will like.
Can I put in a word for some of my favourites? Namely, the Mapp and Lucia series from EF Benson. Well written but light hearted and amusing, set in the 1920s and 30s, delightfully ***!
Elina, this David Lloyd is the former cricketer, nicknamed Bumble. He is quite entertaining even if you don't like sport. Richard Wiseman has written lots of books you might enjoy, as you like psychology.
