Given that Britain discovered the Falklands in 1690 and claimed them in 1765, 11 years before the land now known as Argentina became a Spanish colony and 94 years before Argentina became an independant country I cannot see why Britain should not equally claim Argentina as British territory ...with Jezza as dictator.

derek; //I am now fully convinced that JC is a Tory mole busilly hammering nails in Labour's coffin.//

Yes, that's what we used to think about Tony Benn, the man of whom even his own leader Harold Wilson said (and I think it applies to JC too), "He's the only politician I know who immatures with age"
Jim's right. Milne is an apologist for Russia and I am sure werr he put on the spot about dubious election figures in that country he would have some other tale to tell. It isn't a question even of 'left' and 'right' but out and out hypocrisy.
I don't want to go go round the houses about Crimea again, but that was effectively an armed take over and referendum at the barrel of a gun. Comparisons with the Falklands referendum are laughable. Same result, very different scenarios. (There IS more than one way to explain a massive referendum majority) As is NI, as already explained
Ukraine's claim to Crimea and Britain's to the Falklands, are both absolutely legitimate.
ichy; There is absolutely no comparison between the claim to Crimea by Ukraine to that of Britain's claim to the Falklands;

They gave it away! Krushchev may have been *** when he did it, like most of his fellow leaders, but tough ;-)
Furthermore, Russia signed an international accord with the U.K. and the US guaranteeing the borders of the new post Soviet Ukraine.
And even if the Russian claim was legitimate, which it isn't of course, the manner in which they annexed it most certainly was not
Sorry Krushchwv was drunk, not '***' :-)
