This is ludicrous !
Does dave really think that he is doing us any favours here ! What happens if the Doctors refuse to accept this new contract ? Will he sack 10,000's of Doctors ?
He should step back from the brink, sack Hunt and appoint someone else.

the difficulty with this discussion is that most posters here arent aware of a junior doctors modern contract
The minister has power to impose a contract - which kinda not makes it a contract but never mind - and virtually no other employment contract does the employer enjoy such unfettered power
I am virtually sure under TURLA rules this would not be a 'new' contract but counted for years served purposes etc as a contrinuation of the old one
junior doctors are not allowed to work unsupervised and so forcing them to work at week ends means that their supervisors ( consultants are gonna have to be there as well ) Hence Dr Porter saying that other staff will be next
Emergncy care has always been covered but this new thing is to cover routine lists and out patients during a week end
Running labs X ray and secretarial services has not been costed as it is not 'planned' yet - yes they are planning routine services over a week end without running the usual things you see Mon Fri - labs - X ray and so safety is an issue whethher or not in the Good Old Days the only special investigation Sqad used was a mercury thermometer ....
and Sqad as for enslavement of the junior doctors

and yeah Mikey - all the CEOs who were meant to support Jeremy Hunt to "solve the period of uncertainty" - NB caused by one J hunt esq -
have all reneged
clearly they dont want a demotivated sullen unhelpful workforce .....
( sudduv rule no 1 in management innit - dont poss off your productive elements as then your productivity will plummet )
