Prosciutto !
14 Answers
Yesterday I found a packet of Prosciutto at the back of the fridge, that I had forgotten about. It had a sell-by date of June 7th, but I am almost sure that that was last year, not this June !
I was going to throw it out but thought I wuld taste a bit first.
It was absolutely delicious !......very sweet. As I am still alive this morning, it just goes to show that we should treat these sell-by dates with a large pinch of salt.
I shall enjoy the rest in a sandwich for lunch !

I have been reading up about Prosciutto, and I can see it lasting for years, as long as it kept properly.
It was interleaved with thin slices of plastic film and the whole pack was very well sealed....I had to cut the pack open with a pair of scissors.

And why is that basket of bread that they always plonk down on the table in Italy so ruddy good ? Its a sort of light-grey colour but tastes wonderful. I wish I could buy it easily here Britain. I suppose its got some rye flour in it.
When I worked up in Town in the late 80's-early 90's, there was a wonderful Italian bakery in a street behind Harrods...I wonder if its still there ?
