Can anyone tell me why sea gulls are protected ???

it is a failing (imco) of the system that once protection orders are put on species with declining numbers they are never reviewed once numbers have increased to plague levels.
Gulls would seem an obvious candidate for such a second thought, along with Badgers, Buzzards and Kites.
Thankfully parakeets are included on the open licence.

They were probably endangered because they started attacking people and stealing their chips. In the animal kingdom there is a pecking order and it seems the authorities are encouraging gulls to think they are important and human subservient. A few given a whack when appropriate would solve that issue.
