I picked up a blackcurrant bush in aldi - a complete spur of the moment purchase. I have a pot that is about 14 - 16" dia (it has a large dying plant in it so I can`t get the tape measure across to measure it accurately). Has anyone got any tips of growing the bushes in pots? If it survives, I`ll one day plant it into the ground when I move house.
Shouldn't be a problem 237SJ, I often grow plants like that in pots for 2 or 3 years, before potting them on or planting it out somewhere. I think the support of a cane might be useful, to stop it getting blown about in the wind and encourage good root development.

Thanks Buen. I had looked at that site. And thanks Chipchopper - I`m going to the garden centre now for the compost. Hopefully, it`ll be OK in the pot I`ve got and by 2 or 3 years, I could well be moving on and can re pot or plant in the garden. I`ll make sure I stake it up although it will probably be quite sheltered here.
just a tip, blackcurrants don't like moving, i think you can re-site the pot but they don't like their roots disturbed. i got 2 freebies from ribena a few years ago (looked like pencils) we got over well over 20kg last year and we didn't have time to pick them and we had people come round from freecycle to pick them. they fruit on previous years growth so you need to thin after year 4 and rotate.
