Many thanks, dannyk13 - crossword clues seem to be getting stranger. I have never come across "O" representing "over" but there you go!

Chris, I have noticed that many setters are using the initial letter of a word as that word.

Thanks also, fiction-factory. You may well be right but I have never come across that symbolic representation either. Actually, today`s puzzle had a number of solutions which did not seem to fit very well with their clues. New compiler perhaps, to whom I have yet to become attuned.The same thing seems to apply to each Thursday`s DT cryptic crossword, solving which is, at present, akin to drawing teeth.
