We considered one and a conversion job to change bathroom to shower room.
Daughter suggested move to a bungalow nearby >>> Here we are a year later and soo glad we did.
In old house neighbour had stairlift put in, because it wasn't a standard & had to be Made to measure - - - Over £5.000

how long do you think you will need it for? In my area you can rent them for about £500 a year (including installation and all maintenance) Only on straight stairs though. I rented one for a year while i was waiting for a hip replacement about 5 years ago

ps, we now have a double winder and when i was looking before it was going to cost about £6000 to buy one. You could get old and die waiting for the council to help you out with one (especially if you have a downstairs loo as they wont see it as a priority as you could always bring a bed downstairs)

Hi there, if you need a stairlift becasue of some disability you can ask Adult Social Care (Social Services) for a visit from an occupational therapist, if they recommend a stairlift then the Local Authority must get a referral for a Disabled Facilities grant, these are means tested grants but it is worth asking, if the stair lift is for a child under 19yrs then there is no means test. Disabled Facilitites grants are mandatory and the council cnanot refuse an application. Hope this helps

Have you tried Ideal Stairlifts,they supply second hand under 3 years old from £995 with one year guarantee.I purchased one from them in August 09 for
£1200 and it's been brilliant.

I got one fitted for my mum back in 2004. Its a straight stair re conditioned one from a company called Meditek for £1000. Its brilliant, I will never get rid of it, we are all getting older, and its great for carrying things up stairs, like laundry, and hoover. Handy too, for when weve had a bit too much to drink!!!!!

Would strongly suggest you either rent one or buy reconditioned. We bought one for my late Mother in Law in 1997, it cost £2300 ( no help from Ealing Council) and was promised a "buy back" by ACORN stairlifts. She had only used it for one week when she had to go into care and subsequently died one week later. We tried selling it back to Acorn - they offered £400 !! Sold it privately eventually.Again, please look into all avenues. Good luck
