Condition of loos!

Visited one of our favourite places on Bank Holiday Monday. Went to a well-known local Inn (not belonging to any national chain) intending to have a meal before driving home. I visited the Ladies (as you do) and was very perturbed with the condition of the place. No loo paper, no soap, no towels, only cold water. Floor grubby (skirting boards very dusty, to say the least!) dirty painted walls, loo roll holders 'rusted' to the wall. Any way, though that if the loos were like this I didn't want to eat a meal there - what would the kitchens be like? I feel I should contact the local Environmental Health people. What do you think? Am I being too fussy?

Well lindylou (appropriate name!)

If people are going to provide a loo it should be of a decent quality.

I would contact the health people.

Do the people who prepare the food use the same toilets as the customers?

If they do, the lack of toilet paper, soap, towels etc is a serious concern.

If they have separate toilets it makes you wonder what they are like.

Why not name and shame the pub here?

Thank you Both! I have just spoken to the relevant Environment Health department who were very helpful. As they said they would certainly look into it and thanked me for letting them know of the problem. I was also asked what was my impression of the premises as a whole. Next time we visit I will check and see if there's been any improvement!

Hello All,

As an ex-chef I ALWAYS check out the toilets before deciding whether or not to order food, especially in a pub. It's a very good overall indication of how serious the hygiene standards are taken in that establishment.

I don't know if regulations have changed over the years, they generally do, but i'm sure we had to have a seperate toilet for staff anyway, no offence but some customers are pigs! You can't be too judgemental about the decor but basics like soap and paper are a must! I think you did right in reporting them, after all, if they have nothing to hide then there's no harm done is there.

I always use the ladies loo if I go for a job interview. It is indicative of how an employer treats staff. Good loo good employer. Am I strange?
