wrong sort code

I have sent money to the wrong sort code but now I can't trace it. can you help. It is 40-61-68 but this bank does not seem to exist now .I am getting quite worried Maz

Unfortunately this bank was taken over by portman building society and nolonger exists.. If the sort code is out of date where could the money have gone

How did you send the money? If you paid it in at a bank you should enquire at the branch you paid it in at.

My guess is that it's gone to the Portman Building Society if they have taken over Sun. If the other details (account, reference) match an account there they will not notice until it's pointed out. If they don't match an account they will puzzle over it for a bit, try to match it and if they can't return the money.

Your own bank ought to help you sort it out.
