New Debit Card

I received my new debit card today, as mine is about to run out at the end of the month. The number on the new card is exactly the same as my old one, except for the last four digits.

What a pain...... I now have to change all the details on all the websites that my card is registered on. Can I insist that my new card has the same number as my old one?

No it's done for your security whether your card had run out or its a replacement for a lost one

I understand that it's for security, Ivor, but it's still a botheration!

Wow, the things some people moan about! Must be a real hardship.
That happens with all cards and it's not a bad idea to change what you've got stored on websites anyway. It's only every 3 or 4 years isn't it.
You'll still have to change details on websites as the expiry date will be different
I've just had to do that Tilly2, real nuisance, PayPal, lottery every flippin' website as you say. As Ivor says though, done for security.
I had memorised by card number and life was simple. Then I lost the debit card and the new number is just too complex. In time it will be memorised too - if I live that long.

I realise that it's for security reasons, it's just that one has enough to do without having to change the numbers on all the flippin' websites to which I'm registered.
It's a shame that it can't be done automatically....you put in the old number but the new number is noted as well, something like that.
Must take all of three or four minutes on each site. I have to do the same and I'd rather my money was safe than fret about a few minutes spent keeping things secure.

My debit card was scammed a few weeks ago and Lloyds told me that you should never keep your card registered on websites. Most companies allow you to input your details with each transaction - you don't have to log the number on them.

What about Paypal? You have to register the number with them, don't you?
I hardly ever use Paypal but I'm pretty sure I've got it connected to my bank account and not a card (same with Amazon)

Tilly - I'm just going by what Lloyds told me. I don't do a lot of online shopping - I tend to go online for things such as tickets, holidays etc. When my card was scammed I had bought tickets online from two companies in the couple of days before. Lloyds said that the vast majority of scams come from buying online and that I should never register my card online. Most companies ask you to register "To make it quicker and easier next time" but it's not usually compulsory. With Paypal I just link it to my current account and the money goes in and out of there ( which also means you don't have to change numbers when you get a new card)
