Is it just me but does anyone else struggle to say no to doing things they don't want to do?

As in like attending events etc
It's the space aliens. They're in control you know!
I used to. Not so much anymore.
It's not just you.

We all end up doing things we would prefer not to.

I think I've heard it called "being diplomatic".

Being truthful,,,,,it sucks.
I'd love to say no to going to events, but unfortunately I have to for work- or village-related things. Often I'm shaking and sweating before going, and begging my partner not to make me go.
If you really don't want to do these, just say you're sorry, but you can't make it.
Do you suffer at these events, or do you just find them boring?
It's more a case of not being in control of me. I plan to do lots tomorrow then the day comes and goes and I haven't. I intend to learn to play loads of musical instruments and to sing, and another year goes by and I haven't. I want to take up hobbies I liked in the past and still I've not. I wish to get fit and yet stay fat. I don't understand why, or where the time goes to.
Answerbank OG?
Unless I can`t get out of them I tend to only do things I enjoy - my wife is quite understanding.
Visiting the in-laws is akin to a visit to the dentist

You know it's got to be done, it will be painful, you'll still feel numb when you get home, but at least it'll be over for a while until it occurs again
Same here, O_G. I plan to learn computer languages, I've had a guitar for 12 years but still can't play it, and loads more. Oh yes, and get a new job. Time is whizzing by.
Often Dream, especially for ungrateful people.

Joeluke hahahahhaha I just burst out laughing. That's funny.

It's an event...I know no one. And I was expected to go have drinks and stay over with a couple of don't know. Don't ask. I managed to tell the lady who was dropping me off at this event that I wasn't going. I'm doing my regional work in the middle of no where...Guess she thought it would be nice for me to get our the house. I'm with her at the moment while I work on her farm.
Not many farms in Brisbane D&L ;-).

Backpacker having a working holiday?

If the event is a B&S ball you should go. It'll be a real eye opener, same for a Ute Muster.

1ozzy...are you for real...refreshments loads!!! Outskirts my boy.

It's a sport event. I don't even like sport. I'm not big on drinking much nowadays either. I'm here to save money for travelling further.
Not now...I used to though.
Partly Zacs. One finds something one likes to do then does it too often until almost hooked. At various times in my life I've had to leave a site cold turkey to avoid being reliant on it any more.

I can add to my list. I want to find builders and guttering tradesfolk that will actually put in a quote for work needed rather than ignore potential custom; and I want to get a will written for fear my woman may not have a claim otherwise, but month after month goes by and none of that is done.

Still the gardens are looking better I suppose. Wish I knew something about gardening though.

Strangly comforting to find I'm not the only one Clover. ;-)
I always used to struggle to say 'Sorry, no'. Done it several times lately, but it has taken a long time to get to this stage. Understand how hard it is.
