Chilli's.

My chilli plants (ring o' fire) are in my greenhouse, growing well and are now 18 inches tall, they're lush, green and healthy looking. But I haven't got one single bud or flower on any of my dozen or so plants, yet other other varieties of chilli are covered in flowers. What's the problem ?.

Are you using a fertiliser with a high nitrogen content, zabado ?.

Fertilizers with a high nitrogen content result in lush, green foliage but no fruit.

Thanks for the info tony it made at lot of sense. Having said that, all my other chilli's have had the same conditions light, heat, water, ect and they're full of white flowers. It's just the "ring o' fire" plants that's letting me down.

Have you been feeding them, plenty of tomato feed once a week.

With a name like "ring o fire" I would guess that you're lucky the plants haven't come to fruition.
I like chillies too, butt, "ring o heat" is about as much as I can stand.

Different varieties of chilli come from different areas of the world. Central and south America, India and the far east to name a few. Some varieties will need hotter, drier growing conditions, some will need cooler or more humid conditions.

Keep with them, they might just be a later variety.....I have 20 different chillis and they're all at different stages of development.

Oh....whetever you do....don't feed with tomato food until they set fruits. To be honest, I would only feed weekly with half strength general purpose feed such as miracle grow.

My 'one' chili plant has about 6 tennis ball sized fruits at the mo, with more forming at the top, as the flowers drop.
I've been feeding it once a week since the fruits started to appear and I put it outside on fine days, so it can enjoy fresh air circulation.

As far as I'm aware they are self pollinators, so perhaps they are a later variety you have there.
Any way keep up the good work and hopefully fruits will appear

I have only fed the other types of chilli with fruit on them so that's not a the problem. I suppose all I can do is sit tight and see what comes later on in the season and keep feeding the chilli's I have. Thanks to all for the info.
