Can anyone suggest a place where I can sell an old book (1925).
Tried it on Ebay twice but no interest. :-(

First Edition?
Question Author
not sure, is there a simple way to tell?
Most books that age are virtually worthless. What is the title and author?
It needs to be both rare and sought after to have a value much over a £1 or so. If it was 1725 or 1825 it may have more chance.
But Title,Author . publication date and edition are needed for any attempt at a valuation.

Its called 'The Wonders of Wilmington' by W.Heath Robinson. It's in fair condition for its age, there is one on Amazon for £250 but that is a first edition, I can't tell if mine is a 1st ed.

Google "How to identify a first edition book" loads of info online
The edition number will be on the inside cover, either the front or back depending on the publisher. There will be a date of publication as well.
Heath Robinson is quite popular so even if it is not a first edition it would go for a few £s say £5 to £20. Are there any second hand book dealers near you? They may buy it or sell it on commission.
Lots of Heath Robinson books on eBay but this is the most expensive I can find

Other Heath Robinson books went for £5 to £25.
I doubt that it's worth very much at all. (My own inclination would be to give it to Oxfam, as they have a specialist department selling collectable books, and they might get a few quid for charity from your donation).

I've done a bit of buying and selling of books (especially first editions) over the years and I'll offer you a notional guide to prices:

A first edition of a very collectable book, in good condition, complete with a dust wrapper in good condition might fetch, say, £100.

A similar book but with a slightly tatty dust wrapper might be worth £50.

A similar book without a dust wrapper (they're VERY important to collectors!) might be worth £20.

However if the book is obviously 'used', the value might fall to £10, whereas a 'reading copy' (which is very worn) might only fetch a fiver.

All of the above assume that it's a first edition. Otherwise its value will probably be somewhere between £2 and 10p.

Even so, the fact that the Abebooks website (which is now part of Amazon anyway) can only find one copy of your book suggests that it does have a certain rarity value, so perhaps the William Heath Robinson Trust might be interested in purchasing it?

^^ That web site looks to be mainly about raising cash for the exhibition center, they may be more interested in you donating it to them!

Sorry, a quick look at Oxfam's head office and the CEO's salary means I aint supporting them anytime soon.

I'll probably keep the book and give it to my kids to keep for their kids, by then they may be able to pay off their mortgage. (yeah right).
iggle Piggle anyone can sell on Amazon , you register similar to eBay.
Then you can put your copy up for sale at less than the £250 they want for the one on offer! You do need to find out what edition it is though.
